Description
This is a Temporary Full Time position for up to 11 months.

As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, the Policy Development Section of Strategic Services Branch of Community Services Department requires a highly motivated internationally trained professionals to assume a support role in addressing a broad range of community service planning issues. The successful candidates will be responsible for:
Assisting the Senior Policy Consultants and Branch Leadership Team in strategic policy making
Assisting in the Coordination and Implementation of council directed policy initiatives.
Working on complex projects, at the department level, that are intended to transform services of four very distinct lines of business: Fire Services, Social and Recreation Services, Emergency Medical Services and Recreation Facility Services.
Researching and analyzing project-specific information for the department and City of Edmonton, that will lead to recommendations for policy and program change.
Assessing the impact of policy and legislative changes of senior levels of government on the City of Edmonton and citizens.
Providing policy and project management support to department staff and business units.
Assisting senior staff in initiating and managing strategic information, policy and service delivery projects with community partners, other municipalities and other levels of government.
Qualifications
Candidates require a University degree obtained outside of Canada in a related field such as business administration, planning, or policy studies. A Masters Degree would be considered an asset.
Minimum 2 years international experience undertaking major research reports, policy development and the formulation of strategies.
Knowledge of the principles and practices involved in project management and public involvement processes.
Experience in a government setting would be an asset
Competencies required for this position include:
Knowledge and experience in project management, strategic planning and analytical abilities
Strong research skills with knowledge of various methods and analysis techniques and practices
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including report and briefing note writing
Strong customer service and work prioritization skills
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
Ability to work independently and multitask under time constraints
General proficiency with Microsoft Office
HOURS OF WORK: 33.75 hours per week, Monday — Friday. Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program.

SALARY RANGE: 21M, Salary Grade: 030, $33.99- $42.96 (Hourly), $2,294.93- $2,899.80 (Bi-Weekly), $59,897.74- $75,684.78 (Annually). The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
